The Kentucky School for the Blind
Sensory Garden
Since 1985, our herb society has maintained the Sensory Garden at the Kentucky School for the Blind in Louisville, KY. The garden aims to stimulate the sense of smell and touch with carefully chosen herb plants, enhancing sensory engagement for blind students and visitors. Our involvement underscores a dedication to providing hands-on accessible herb-related educational experiences to visually impaired individuals. The garden helps bridge the gap between nature and the senses fostering independence and connection with the natural world. Giving back in this way is one of the many delights of belonging to the Kentuckiana Herb Society.

The Gardens We Nurture
WHERE LEARNING AND HISTORY GROW

Old Capitol Herb Garden
Corydon, Indiana
Since 2018 the Kentuckiana Herb Society has maintained the heritage herb garden located on the grounds of Governor William Hendrick’s headquarters in Corydon, Indiana – the first state capital. Created in 1840 in the walled area next to the headquarters, care is taken to preserve the authenticity of the herb garden with similar plants that were sown there over a century and four score ago. We are honored to play a role in the history of this period garden. When planning a trip to the First State Capitol Building, be sure to stop by the garden and enjoy the herbs, flowers, and pollinators. You will most likely encounter one of our members tending to the herbs – if so, please say “hi!”.
